trying to restore iphone 6s in recovery mode wi...

So I forgot the passcode to my iphone 6s and found out that i could only restore it in recovery mode with itunes and i tried doing that. It was all well and good until I paused the update that was downloading for my phone. It was already halfway through and instead of resuming the download, like it should have, it started all over again, i.e from zero. What do i do so I can pause my update download on itunes but not lose all the partially downloaded file?
