Upgrading a 2009 mac pro SSD

I'm currently upgrading a 2009 mac pro that i no longer use for my daughter.  What's the recommended compatible SSD?  I'm currently looking at Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM), will that work and will 500GB be enough or will a 250GB be ok for general everyday use?
