would there be any issues in buying an ipad in ...

would there be any issues in buying an ipad in the US and using it in the UK ?

ie. Charging the battery or having any repairs under the warranty ? Thank you.

The USA warranty will not be honored in the UK should you require warranty service. The charger will work but you will need a wall outlet adapter - US to UK.

As long as its the Wifi only version you should have no issues.

Warranty is limited to country of purchase for cellular devices, and the Apple TV.

Non cellular devices, should pose no issues.

Charging can be accomplished with an adapter for the U.S plug, or even a U.K. iPad charger.

thanks for the reply,

I thought the Apple warranty was worldwide so as long as you had proof of purchase (from the US) then

you could get it fixed here in the UK if you needed to ?

Would the product not be registered with Apple anyway so they would know when it was purchased ?

(never had an ipad before so just asking the questions). I have the chance to buy a brand new ipad from the US

but live here in the UK so just wondered about a few things. The warranty issue is quite important as i would not want

to get caught out and have to pay for any repairs especially if still within the 12 month warranty period.

I tried to read up on a few posts about this and i got the impression that the warranty was worldwide and i would have

no problems but maybe not ??

As mentioned, with cellular devices, it can and most times will be restricted to the country of purchase.

Non cellular devices generally do not have this limitation.

If the iPad is Wifi only, there should be no real issues with obtaining warranty service.

yes it would just be the wifi version,

is there anywhere on the Apple site where it would say for sure about a US ipad using the warranty in the UK ?

I would really need to be 100% sure before I make the purchase to be honest.

The battery charging bit sounds good, thank you. I can get a US adapter and a uk ipad charger is needs be, I just

wondered is the US version had a different voltage to the UK version ?

Please read your warranty.  Apple - Hardware and Software Warranty and Read your Warranty. For more information see:

Apple Warranty Information

For future reference consult your warranty for questions regarding what is covered.  Apple is the final authority on what will be covered by their warranty, so questions about the warranty should be directed to AppleCare.  The Discussions are user-supported so we have no authority to say what Apple will or won't do with respect to their business practices.

Any advice about warranties or other Apple business practices that you receive here should be considered opinion only.  AppleCare is the authority on warranty coverage.

The only thing Apple explicitly points out is that:

Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD AND APPLE TV SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

This generally has been known to apply to cellular devices only.

Beyond that, the warranty does state international service where available.

Where international service is available, Apple may repair or replace Apple Products and parts with comparable Apple Product and parts that comply with local standards.

Outside of that, its up to you whether you want to take that risk.  As said generally with non cellular devices there is no issue.

Regarding the power adapters, you only need to plug adapter for the U.K. outlets if you plan to use the U.S. charger.

Apple's chargers are universal and support all common voltages from around the world from 100v to 240v.

Otherwise the U.K charger, and a lightning to usb cable will work fine with the U.S. iPad.
