No Startup Sound on 2017 iMac
I just received my BTO 2017 27-inch iMac and noticed that there was no startup sound. I read that Apple removed or disabled this iconic startup sound on 2016 MacBook Pros but I was wondering if it was the same for 2017 iMacs?
Just to be safe, I reset the PRAM (NVRAM as it's called today I think) but nothing changed.
My first Mac was a Quadra 840av and I have been accustomed to this upon starting my Macs for over 20 years and it should be a shame if this had been removed.
Can anyone officially confirm if it's been disabled on 2017 iMacs?
I am also aware of the command line but would like to avoid changing anything from default setting.
Thanks!
I copied this from Apple Support Website: Mac models from late 2016 and later don't have a startup chime. The only exception is MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017), which does have a startup chime. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202768

As you are not speaking to Apple on these forums that would be impossible. We are all end users just like you.
However if you would like to speak to Apple please use your complimentary 90 days of AppleCare phone support. If the first level support does not know, then ask for the case to be escalated to a senior advisor.
got mine too and was surprised..no iconic sound! now to figure out how to hook a second monitor up
I received my iMac on June,14th and ... surprisingly no statue sound.
I used to disable it on my previous iMac and when it came back from time to time, (don't know the reason) I disabled it again.
So it seems that not only MacBooks are concerned ...
Hi Snoopster, you are right, it's a shame and I have to blaim Apple for their wrong doing. After starting up my brand new iMac mid 2017 I didn't hear that sound, too, and did all the known steps you've done. At the end I called Apple support and a very nice guy in Turkey told me, that the startup sound was dissabled by Apple on the new iMacs, too.

It is gone. The startup noise is one of the most unique and awesome things about Macs. Now it's just silent.
Sometimes I startup my 2011 iMac just to hear the noise.

You can provide your feedback to Apple at www.Apple.com/feedback
I wish I would have found this chain of answers. Because I am spending 2 days to find an answer, and tried about everything including a hammer, just kidding. Apple is making so many changes that make no sense including deleting a the start up sound. Now if I turn the computer on I have to guess did I push the power button hard enough?
