Why has my play counter stopped working?

Recently I have been adding new songs to my iTunes on my Windows 10 PC. Up until now every new song that I listened too got a play count of one (1). Any song that already had a count it would then increase. Now when I listen to a new song it DOESN'T get a count and others that already had a count it DOESN'T increase that count when I listen too them again. WHY?
