Apple Pencil battery indicator

When I plug the Apple Pencil into the Lightning port of my iPad, I can go to the iPad widgets and see the battery percentage in the Batteries widget.  The little lightning bolt indicator is also there, indicating the Pencil is charging.  As time goes by, the battery percentage goes up as expected.

Using a little Lightning cable adapter that I purchased from Amazon, made by Fintie, I can plug the Pencil into an electrical socket using the iPad charging block and a Lightning cable, or into a USB port on my computer.  Either way, the Batteries widget shows the lightning bolt indicator for the Pencil, but the battery percentage doesn't increase.  Now if I unplug the Pencil from the charging cable and plug it back in, the percentage changes, but it appears that the Pencil is charging very slow.  For example, the Pencil stayed at 24% for about 10 minutes before I unplugged it and plugged it back in.  Then the percentage showed 27%.  Only 3% in 15 minutes?  This is with the Pencil plugged directly into an electrical outlet using the Fintie adapter, Lightning cable, and iPad charging block.

Is this to be expected?  Should I just ditch the Fintie adapter and plug the Pencil directly into the iPad?

Since you're using a third party accessory, yes I would say you can't necessarily expect it to communicate with the battery widget correctly.

It's up to you whether you keep using it or not. It does sound convenient to be able to charge it from the iPad's power adapter rather than the iPad itself, but if you do that then know that you may not see an accurate battery percentage.
