USB3 HDD on a USB2 iMac 2011 Hub

I have tried for weeks on and off to get this to mount on my 2011 27" iMac and had no luck whatsoever.

Searched every hidden corner of Google and in theory it should work no problem. It does not show as mounted anywhere, it is a powered HDD and works perfectly well on my 2012 Air. I know the latter is equipped with USB3 but it verifies the drive is formatted and working well.

So why can I not get it mounted on the iMac 2011, I have a WD 1TB HDD (USB2) connected and that works but this WD 2TB HDD (USB3) is not playing fair....

Any ideas, a lot of the basic stuff I have done, resetting PRAM, pulling out all other devices, restarting etc etc.

At the moment I have to copy files through the Air via netwrok and onto the USB3 but now I need to move 190GB across! :-)

Any suggestions?
