Exercise Overtracking
Since I upgraded my watch to 4.2 it is way over tracking exercise. Prior on a day it would only pick up 10-20 min throughout the day when I didn't work out, but now I am ending the day well over 100. Today I am already over 37 min. at noon, and i have done nothing more then walk down the hallway. Is there any type of calibration besides resetting the Fitness calibration data, (didn't help).
Greg
Hi Greg
The following steps may help:
- If you have not yet done so, also update your iPhone to the latest software:
- Check your personal information:
- Exercise estimations depend, in part, on your personal information. To check that this is accurate:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Health > Edit - tap and adjust items, then tap on Done.
- Exercise estimations depend, in part, on your personal information. To check that this is accurate:
- Check that you are wearing your Apple Watch correctly:
- For the best performance, be sure to wear your Apple Watch snugly (but not too tightly) on the top of your wrist:
- Check your Location Services settings:
- On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services:
- Check that Location Services (the main setting at the top) is turned on.
- In the list of apps beneath, check that Apple Watch Workout is set to While Using.
- Also enable options under System Services including Motion Calibration & Distance, Wi-Fi Networking and Mobile Network Search.
- On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services:
- If the Location Services settings were not as detailed above, then it may help to calibrate your Apple Watch again, resetting existing data and starting afresh:
- Follow the instructions here (this process can be equally beneficial for Series 2 models):
- Calibrating your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy - Apple Support
- Allow the arm on which you are wearing your Apple Watch to swing naturally as you move around during daily wear and to move as expected during workouts:
- During general daily wear and when using the Workout app to record workouts when GPS data is either not relevant or not available, the Activity app and Workout app track your arm motion (measured by the accelerometer) when estimating results.
- If you have ever (not necessarily recently) previously used the Workout app and/or any third-party fitness, heart and/or sleep tracking apps on your watch, check on your Apple Watch to see whether there is an active or paused session within any of them.
- If there is, then end that activity from within the app on your watch (not your iPhone).
- If in doubt, it may help to remove any such third-party apps from your Apple Watch, at least temporarily.
- Close certain apps and then restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch:
- Close the Watch app, Activity app and Health app (if open) on your iPhone:
- Double-click the Home button, then swipe up on each app preview to close the apps.
- Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first:
- Close the Watch app, Activity app and Health app (if open) on your iPhone:
- When recording any specific fitness activities, be sure to use the Workout app (or a third-party app that supports the relevant activity and shares data to Health) and to choose the activity type that most closely matches your workout.
- This enables your watch to use the most appropriate sensors and data sources when tracking results.
- Select "Other" for activities that are neither included within nor sufficiently similar to the main activity types.
- Work out with your Apple Watch - Apple Support
- If the issue still persists, then I suggest that you next unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:
- The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app.
- Initially choose to Restore from Backup during set up (most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions, such as Apple Pay cards, passcode).
- If the issue persists, consider instead unpairing and setting it up as a new watch.
- Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support
- Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support
If the issue still persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:
