Watch series 3 GPS working very slowly/intermit...

I am having an issue with the GPS on the apple watch is working very slowly/intermittently when disconnected from the phone.  It takes along time to find the satellites and sometimes doesn't (location arrow services crossed out) so is actually unusable in standalone mode. Any ideas?

If GPS / Location Services is not performing as expected on your Apple Watch, then the following steps may help:

 

 

  • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - check that both Fitness Tracking and Health are enabled.

 

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy - check that both Fitness Tracking and Heart Rate are enabled.

 

  • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services:
    • Check that Location Services (the main setting at the top) is turned on.
    • In the list of apps beneath:
      • Check that Apple Watch Workout, Apple Watch Faces are set to While Using.
      • Check that the settings for any other app (for example, Maps) are as desired.
    • If each setting is already enabled:
      • Try briefly turning off Location Services and then turning it back on again.
      • Try briefly changing the setting for any problematic app to Never and then back again.
    • Also enable options under System Services including Setting Time Zone, Motion Calibration & Distance, Wi-Fi Networking and Mobile Network Search.

 

 

  • If the issue persists, then it may help to unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:

 

If the issue then still persists and you are concerned about a potential defect with your Apple Watch, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:
