Mac won't recognize charger; SMC reset doesn't ...

My Mac suddenly died when I was on Netflix and when I turned it back on the battery status had an X to it. I looked it up and came across resetting the SMC. After doing that the battery status disappeared (I couldn't add it back through System Preferences) and the LED on the adapter wouldn't turn on, eventually the battery died. When I was ready to go to a friend's house to try her adapter out I decided to connect it to a different outlet and it worked!

However, once I moved the laptop (while watching Netflix) it shut down and the adapter wouldn't turn on again or charge the battery. Also if I closed the lid with Netflix running the computer would shut down instead of going to sleep. I tried closing it "without" Netflix and it went to sleep.

I noticed that disconnecting it from the outlet and waiting for some time before plugging it back in sometimes worked, but as soon as I moved the Mac it turned off again. I've tried resetting the SMC many times but I didn't find a correlation between doing it and the adapter working. I think the problem might not be in the adapter, however, as it seems to be working sometimes, although I haven't tried it in another Mac, and it didn't show any problems before today.

I also think that there might be something to do with Netflix (I don't think that's even possible but) as I had been trying plugging it on and off for the past 10 minutes with no success, and as soon as I opened the website it started charging.

I am sorry if my text is a bit confusing but the situation is really weird and I tried to describe everything that has happened or that I have tried, even though I haven't had the chance to really test the different scenarios.
Oh, and the nearest Apple store is 250 miles away so bringing it in for service is not the most doable action for me.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks
