4TB drive only shows up as 1.8TB  OS X 10....

I have a new iMac Retina 5K Late 2014 Mac and I have a WD 4.0 TB drive that was formatted on a PC using a SIIG USB cradle.  On the PC, the drive shows up as 4TB.  I formatted it with Windows.  I now want to use the drive exclusively on the iMac so I moved the SAME cradle to the mac.  When I get into the Disk Utility, the drive shows up as 1.8TB.   How can I format the drive so the Mac OS sees the full 4TB?

In the Disk Utility the partition map scheme shows: GUID partition table.

You're looking at the Volume and not at a partition, correct?

Strange, as you are going to be erasing the drive anyway I would go ahead and erase the drive and partition it and see if the numbers change.

I just tried to format the drive.  If I click on disk or volume, it doesn't matter.  It will only format at 1.8TB.

Could you supply a link to the dock you are using to connect the drive. I went to the SIIG site and couldn't find anything that seem to fit.

BTW dies the deice show up as a Logical Volume Group in Disk Utility? Do you have File Vault on or is this disk encrypted in any way?

There is no file vault or any disk encryption on the drive.   Here is  the link for the product

When attached to my PC, I can format the drive as a full 4TB, but not on the iMac.

Hi, I know this post was a long time ago but I’m having the exact same problem. Did you ever solve this? Thanks.
