Virus not found by malware scans

Yesterday my younger brother came rushing because our iMac partly crashed. I'm writing this from the iMac I'm speaking of, but some functions such as sound and videos don't work anymore. Apparently my brother clicked for the next video on kiss anime, it quickly downloaded something and now the All My Files folder is empty, when I press downloads in the Dock it reacts slowly and a bit distorted and Safari acts strangely. I've tried scanning the All My Files map with BitDefender (I don't know much about malware, so I don't know how effective it's supposed to be), but it won't let me scan the map. I think that if I have a virus, it's in the All My Files map. Does anyone have a way to find out more or to at least get back my files?
