Mail Stopped Working.

I've not received any incoming Mail messages since 22nd July (four Days ago!) and I know there are new ones to view because they show in the 'In Box' of my Virgin Media account.

I've tried all the suggestions in a thread which was started in 2012 so maybe there are new things I should try.

Here's a couple of screenshots of Mail settings I've tried:-

Can one of you experts please help?

Thank you.

Hi there, Makey!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Forums. From your post, I understand that you have been unable to receive email in Mac Mail for a few days. I'd be happy to help!

It's great to hear that you've tried some troubleshooting. Since I don't know exactly what you've done, my recommendation would be to go through the following article, making sure you do not miss any steps: If you can’t send or receive email on your Mac.

If you continue to have trouble, don't hesitate to respond back. If you do, please include additional information, such as the Connection Doctor results and any error messages you may be receiving.

Cheers!

Hi chris_g1,

I does seem to be working now because I followed your link to find the following so it must have been Apple updates required as here:-

This I found in the App Store:-

Thank you for helping me,

makey.

So glad to hear everything is working as expected now, Makey!

Have a lovely day.

I'm afraid it's happened again, todays mail has not arrived.  I've gone through all the checks again but the last ones I've got are from yesterday.

What should I do now?

Hi Allen A,

I've had an idea on this problem.  Because I have the same email address for my iPhone MAIL, I wonder if this is causing a conflict with the iMac MAIL.

Perhaps if I remove Mail from the iPhone it might solve the problem.

What do you think?

Hi, Makey!

Thanks for letting us know the issue has reappeared. With the new information you have provided, it sounds as if you may be using a POP email account. When you use a POP email account on multiple devices, sometimes only the first device that downloads the email will receive it. The following article will provide you with more information about what may be happening, as well as suggestions to solve the issue: Get help if you have issues using a POP email account with more than one device.

Have a good rest of your weekend.

Hi sarah_s1.

Thank you for trying to help with my problem.  I'm told by my ISP (virgin media) that I need to use SMTP and NOT POP.  I'm going to delete Mac Mail from my iPhone because I reckon it's causing a conflict with my iMac Mail (I don't want to use it on the iPhone anyway).

Meanwhile I can't get it to allow the Status to be ONline as here:-

NOT ONLINE.jpg

Can you possible tell me how to get it back online please?

Thanks makey.

Hi chris_g1.

The Mail problem has been resolved.  IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH SAFARI!  I've just been speaking with a Virgin Media Support Representative who said it's a BROWSER problem, has sorted it all out for me and, by using the FIREFOX browser instead, it it's all now working properly.

I don't know what's wrong with Safari but, from now on until it might be fixed, I'm permanently going to use only Firefox.

I'd be interested in your response to this information.

Best regards,

makey.

Hi chris_g1.

I've just had the problem again where I can't send a Mail , I deleted my account as suggested in this thread but now I can't get it back as shown because the gear just keeps spinning. NOTHING is working at all:-

It just SPINS Round.jpg

I tried 'Connection Doctor" but even that produced nothing!

I've tried all the latest passwords but nothing is accepted!

Please help.

Thanks.

Further to my reply just now I've received this information:-

Unable to Verify.jpg

The gear must have finally stopped spinning to show the last message.

This is all too much for me to get my head around!
