Security packages benefit?

I am using an iMac but it's part of a network with a Mac Book, iPad and 2 iPhones. On my iMac I have Sierra.

Is there any real advantage to installing a security package like Norton or McAfee, etc.?

No. Don't do it. They will do more harm than good.

Mac OS was designed to be extremely secure from it's initial design and only needs to be kept up-to-date to remain so. As you have been advised, adding third party antivirus, cleaning or ANY third party maintenance apps tends to create far more problems than they ever solve. If left alone and otherwise kept up-to-date Mac OS tends to work very reliably for many years unlike other operating systems.
