Group message not working

iPad Air iOS 11.2.

iPhone 5s

group text message with other iPhone/iPad  members. Can’t respond to iMessage text on iPad only iPhone. i receive the message but no bubble is available to type in to respond with? If each of the group text me individually, I can respond, but again cannot respond when I receive a message as a group message ( initiated by any group member). Have rebooted, reset, etc. all else works great. The only item I notice is in settings - there isn’t any choice to turn on group messaging as there is with my iPhone. I have ATT for my carrier and a sbcglobal.net email

From your post, I understand that you cannot respond to iMessage texts on your iPad. I can also see that you have completed some really good troubleshooting already, but the issue remains. We’re here to help!

One troubleshooting step you may not have completed yet is deleting the conversation thread from the iPad completely and then having someone send a new message to the group. 

Delete a conversation. In the Messages list, swipe left on the conversation, then tap Delete.
