App store keeps asking for my credit card info ...

Every time I go to get a free app, I keep getting asked for my credit card info to be updated. If it's free, why is my credit card info needed!?? I don't want to get charged, so I cancel out of the credit card request, it's not worth trying to get unwanted charges taken off. I would write to Apple but for some strange reason they refuse to use email for help. So, guess I will just try here.

No, you will not be charged for a free app, it just won't work if your already registered credit card has expired.
Do you currently have a credit card in your Apple account? If you do this will happen because the card has expired, address has changed, etc.
I also refuse to enter a credit card into iTunes. You can purchase a cheap iTunes gift card ($10) and enter that code number as a safer alternative.
Yes, I do have a credit card in my Apple account and yes, it is asking for a new expiration date. Seems weird since it's a free app though. So I shouldn't worry about them charging me for it?

I am really bothered by Apple requesting access to my credit card before I'd make or even have the intention to purchase something. I understand this way is easyer if you are a constant buyer in appstore.

 

However, they should consider having a usual cart option where you put the card data once at the end, for those who rarely visit appstore, like me...

You don't need a CC to create an account or get free apps/music/movies.

Why enter any card data if there is no cost?

What do you mean "if there is no cost?", maybe I didn't finish the idea...

 

You have stuff in the cart which you pay at checkout right ? look how Amazon does it and 1 million other stores.

 

Imagine if every online store asked the CC while registering.

You do not have to register a credit card at all, you do not even need to buy a gift card to link to the account.

This topic is about free apps so there is no cost with free apps.

 

I should have bought the android based tablet, as I did with my phone. Most of the apps there are free and nobody asks for the credit card unless I choose to purchase paid app.

You can still sell your iPad and pout that money towards an Android based tablet to get the experience you want.

And a grreat selection they do have...

You don't need to enter you credit card details for the iTunes store either unless you purchase a paid app.

Even I do faced same issue on my iphone 5 recently, because I had updated my credit card details while purchasing 'whats app'. Later on if I try do down load free apps, it started asking me verify payment info..I got frustrated and tried to remove apple id and create the same id and reset networksettings, but issue not resolved.!!

 

Possible scenarios of it occures:

1. While creating your apple id you might have given credit card info an dlater that got modified/expired

2. Once you buy anything by using credit card that info will be updated to your apple id, so it asks every time

 

Resolution:

Just remove your credit card details from payment information

 

setting > icloud > account > payment information -- remove ur credit card info , done done

 

Then try to download free app, it will only asks for apple password, It will not ask for 'payment verification'
