Deleted my whole hard drive

So I was having problems with my MacBook running really slow. It's from 2008 so I know it's internals are old but it was worse then usual. I did a clean sweep of my Mac and still was having problems. A buddy suggested downloading a Linux os to see if it was software or hardware. Well I accidentally deleted my whole hard drive recovery and all. Now I have this Linux os and can't get back to a Mac OS. I've tried the little shortcuts on startup but only always goes to this new os. What are my options? I have no recovery disc do I need to go buy some. Do those even exist anymore? I feel like I've tried everything and I'm all out of ideas.

From a boot clone or from Recovery

How to create a boot clone

Boot into Recovery (Command R) or option command R for internet Recovery and reinstall the macOS
