How to downgrade to Sierra without loosing data

I would like to ask for helping hand.

About two weeks ago I made upgrade to High Sierra. Because of many reason I need to downgrade back to Sierra now. During the time using the High Sierra I made a lot of important data. Of course I made backup to TimeMachine.

My plan is:

1. Make bootable disk with Sierra

2. Install Sierra via bootable disk

3. Restore from TimeMachine

Will I be able to restore than the data from the latest backup which was made under the High Sierra system, or will I have to restore the data from the latest backup made under Sierra. Generally, is the latest backup compatible with previous macos system?

After installing macOS "Sierra" on the previously erased volume, you can elect to transfer your User Account data from the Time Machine backup.

A complete system restoration with Time Machine will restore that backed-up system, including its operating system. Migrating User Account information subsequent to installing "Sierra" on a previously erased volume won't do that.

Generally, is the latest backup compatible with previous macos system?

In general the answer is no—however—depending on the apps you use the data created with apps that have been updated for High Sierra should still be readable by their previous versions.

A definitive answer cannot be provided without knowing exactly which data was created using which apps.

After the installation, when you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data.
