Can I use GPS and altimeter on a run with series 3 with GPS watch and no data? I want to be able to run without my phone and listen to my downloaded music, use GPS tracker, and altimeter, I do not need data to do this correct?



Hi

 

For Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS), when using the Workout app to record an outdoor run, walk or cycle workout, both elevation gain and a route map are recorded (the map cannot be viewed during the workout).

 

Once your workout results have synced to your iPhone after your workout, the route map can be viewed via the Activity app on your iPhone:

 

  • On your iPhone, in the Activity app, go to: Workouts (tab) > tap on the workout to view the summary > tap on the route map thumbnail at the bottom to view a larger version. 

 

Having first synced music to your Apple Watch, music can also be listened to during your workout using Bluetooth headphones that have been synced to your watch.

 

A data connection is not required during your run in order to use these features.
