Notifications go to iPhone and apple wat

Is there a way to have notifications go to my iPhone and Apple Watch both? I found I could do this by turning off the Apple Watch wrist detection, but that limits a lot of the functionality. This seems like a pretty significant limitation.

At this time, that is the way that it is designed to work. When wearing the Apple Watch, if the phone is locked, then notifications come to the watch. If the phone is unlocked, then notifications will come to the phone.

As you have found, you can get notifications on both, however that requires that you turn off wrist detection, and severely limits many functions for the watch.
