DEP Enrollment Question
Hi,
I manage approximately 300 iPhones and iPads and I am interested in enrolling them in DEP so I can better manage them. In order to enroll them I need to use the serial number to enroll them. All of the devices are used in remote field office locations.
Apparently Apple doesn't provide to Verizon Wireless, or Verizon Wireless does not track, the serial number of the devices. Verizon Wireless can only provide me with the IMEI and the ICCID when I log into VZBiz. Since the IMEI is unique to each device we use it for asset management and do not have the serial numbers on file.
Does anyone know if I provide Apple the IMEI's of the devices will Apple be able to provide me the serial numbers to the devices?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Apple does not appear to have a community for DEP.
Thank you,
Ken
The serial number is available on each device by going to Settings-General-About and scrolling down to that tab. So in the worst of cases you could ask the users to provide it to you although that would be a lot of manual work.
Secondly, your supplier should be able to provide that information to you but again it might entail manual entries.
Apple certainly can provide the information. The challenge would be to contact the right person. Perhaps your supplier would have the contact information for the Apple employee who could assist you. That would likely be the most efficient approach.
What's "DEP?"
Hi,
Sorry. DEP is Apples Device Enrollment Program that allows for Mobile Device Management (MDM). It can used alone or as an add on to many other MDM programs. DEP allows businesses to enroll their devices so that they can manage them all from one portal instead of by device. Certain settings can pre-configured for registered device and any new ones that get added later on. You can have different settings for groups of devices.
It allows for a mandatory and lockable MDM enrollment, wireless supervision, "zero-touch" IT configurations, and a streamlined setup assistant among other things.
Here is a link to the DEP program. It sounds like a great option for companies to use when a number of devices need to be standardized and managed remotely.

Hi,
Thank you. It would be too difficult for us to ask the users for the information. Verizon Wireless has told me they don't maintain that information. My only hope, I guess, is to contact Apple directly. I will see if my VZW rep has any contacts at Apple that can assist me.
Ken
Thank you.
Since it’s an Apple program, I would have expected that the S/Ns would be more readily available. Of course, I bought a Rambler once so what do I know?
