update smart playlist
If i'm not mistaken, Apple have removed a right click menu option 'update' on smart play-lists? I'm assuming this is because they think by having the auto-update/live button ticked that it will happen automatically?
I had a smart playlist set up for new albums I add to my iTunes library but don't 'love'.... 200 songs random will copy to my iPhone just so I guess they get a little bit of air time. On average, I probably add about 25-30 albums per month, some of them are 'loved' and so automatically do get added to iPhone, but not all.
It is pretty clear from a couple of recent adding sessions that this 'live' button does absolutely nothing in terms of my 'for iphone but unloved' smart play list....
Am I missing something in the settings? The 'update' menu option on right click was great, and you could see if just add and delete a few songs from the list to add some of the latest album additions.... this new thing, yeh well, as with most things apple of late... it's just not delivering on it's promise.
Please, if anyone has a clue what I am talking about and how to get back to having this list just update without me having to delete and recreate it every 2 weeks that would be smashing.
Thanks
I believe you are confusing two playlist concepts:
- Updating a smart playlist
- Syncing a playlist (smart or otherwise) to an iPhone
Regardless of the update status of your playlist, or how long ago that playlist was updated, playlists are only synced to an iPhone when the iPhone is synced using iTunes.
Hi, no I don't think I am confusing them, I understand that part of the whole thing, it's this menu option to manually update the list that I am wondering about, unless I have been living in a dellusion for a couple of years, that menu item has disappeared in the latest release of iTunes. Now, I'm left as mentioned with this 'live' toggle/button/tickbox that does seemingly nothing unless as you say the phone is connected. I would like to be able to update playlists without the need to have my phone connected, and for such to then update - I may for example want to edit the list it creates just a little so songs I may really not like out of the latest import don't appear in my iphone. I know, confusing and perhaps a little bit bossy sounding, but it was a function in there before, and now it isn't.... no reason to take it away that i can think of...... just Apple being their usual bossy selves I suppose.
I can't believe that this was an issue from last year. I update my iTunes every couple of months, but only after the most recent update, did the UPDATE option disappear. So bummed. It was very helpful.
Now I have to click EDIT, then click OK every time. URGH!
