Apple Watch Wifi

Is it possible to turn off wifi on Apple Watch Series 2 running latest Watch OS?

When I go to church, I leave my phone in the car. My Apple Watch connects to the wifi in the church, and I still receive messages. I put it in theater mode, which stops the notifications, but the watch is still connected to the wifi.

With the KRACK threat, I want to turn off the wifi on my watch. Is that possible? Or do I have to enable Airplane mode?

The only way to turn off wi-fi on the watch is to put it in Airplane Mode. It seems at some point that you must have connected to the church's wi-fi and it is a saved wi-fi on the phone. That is the only reason that the watch would connect to it without the phone nearby. You have to option to forget the wi-fi on the phone, which would then forget it for the watch, so it would not connect to the wi-fi.
