Case sensitive back to case insensitive

My MacBook Pro had the dreaded Old video issue, and unfortunately i didn't find out until to late.  Well the computer crashed and I had to buy and install a new logic board and had to reinstall OS.... some how in the process i must have mistakenly opted for case sensitive file system.  Now I can't load any of my Adobe products.  I used my computer on location and not being to have Photoshop and Lightroom is a big pain.  Can someone offer some help.

Unless you purposely downloaded macOS Sierra, and created a bootable USB stick, then Sierra is gone from the Mac App Store, and no longer accessible. Your only option would be to download High Sierra, and make a bootable USB Stick from it. This may have ramifications for some applications though.

If you do have a bootable Sierra (or High Sierra) USB stick, then you will have to back up your files, and perform a clean install of macOS Sierra with the correct HFS+ case-insensitive formatting. Then reinstall your third-party applications.

Would it be possible for the OP to 1) Backup, to TM or Clone  2) Open Disk Utility in recovery mode (⌘R) 3) Erase the startup disk, selecting HFS+ case-insensitive 4) Then select re-install macOS 5) in the install process, select copy data from TM or other macOS disk.  Not sure which macOS would be download in this process.

Maybe. What is the impact of restoring a case-sensitive Time Machine backup to a case-insensitive installation? This is rhetorical as I have no experience with this issue. What if there are upper and lower case items on the backup that contain different content? How are they resolved on restore to a case-insensitive system?

AFAIK, you can't do a restore of a TM case sensitive to a case insensitive system.

But, what I was suggesting was to install the system to a case insensitive volume, then install only the data and Apps from the TM (or Clone) backup when prompted (could also be done with Migration Assistant).  — Not sure if this would work for the OP though.
