Hi. I’m using the MacBook Pro (13inch mid 2012)  macOS Sierra version 10.12.6. It’s been a few days that my Mac  has started to behave strange, for e.g. input source keyboard changes itself to some really bizarre language or the genie effect starts on its own for no reason whatsoever. So I decided maybe it’s time to format the laptop. I went ahead with the backup and the usual shut it down/ restart it and hold down command + R / command + option + R key, this directed me to the internet recovery after which i was asked for my internet password. Now that’s where the problem started. I am just not able to type anything, none of my keyboard keys work here other than enter. I have tried everything possible but it just will not work. Please advice. 

Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time.

Reset NVRAM/PRAM

Try a SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.
