Turned off computer during update

Hello, I have a really nasty problem that I haven't been able to solve after looking for a solution for weeks.

I have a MacBook Pro with Bootcamp installed, right now I'm writing from Windows 7. A few weeks ago, I turned on my laptop as usual, and an update started. I wandered off while it was updating, and long story short, friend shut down the laptop by holding the power button.

Now I can't use OSX. When hit alt after turning on computer, I no longer get to choose between OSX and Windows 7, all I get is Windows 7.

When I try to access my HFS/OSX partition (E:) from Windows 7 explored, I notice that many folders that should be there are missing, and most of the times I get a blue screen memory leak error when going inside certain folders.

Re-installing everything isn't an option, I really need to re-establish my OSX, because I have a ton of valuable files in there, like music, which is sorted among thousands of folders with special file naming, and I totally don't want to use a disk recovery program to recover my information with no folder structure or order...

Has anyone been trough this?

Version of OS X you were using?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities

If you have Mountain Lion or Lion, press Command and R keys in boot, open Disk Utility and repair the Mac volume. If it doesn't, reinstall

My version is 10.6.3, how would I procceed on this case?

Thanks for the quick welcome and help =)

Get your original install disk & boot from that. Select your original OS X partition & reinstall OS X. Would be better if you have a Time Machine backup...do you?

Insert the Snow Leopard disc that came with your computer and press C key in boot

Wouldn't reinstalling OSX make me lose my archives on the OSX partition?... I'm not liking that idea.

Don't have a Time Machine backup, alas.

You don't lose files

No, you "shouldn't" lose any files or data. This is the only way you have any chance to fix this.

Let this be a lesson. Start backing up. If you don't, you will eventually lose ALL of your data...guaranteed.

What if I had some folders hidden in my applications folders? Saved there from Windows, they were hidden there due to being confidential stuff. Is there a guarantee that no folders will be rewritten? Also, I shouldn't lose any of the stuff in my Bootcamp partition, right?

Thanks!

It only reinstalls the apps included in Snow Leopard, so you should keep the files

Doing this should not touch any data on your computer. Can I or anyone else guarantee such? No. However, if you want to get your data back, you have no choice but to reinstall OS X.

Stuff like this is why you backup.

Thank you guys! I will try to reinstall now and let you know how it went.

And yes, I will backup from now on.

Also, go to  > Software Update and update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8

You're welcome.

If you don't, you will eventually lose all of your data.
