Apps Disappear when SYNCing

Hello and thank you for your time,

1. When connecting my iPhone 5 to iTunes to sync new songs to my phone, the apps in the bar located at the bottom of the iTunes, indicates that it will delete all my apps if I execute the sync. (see images)

Now I will click on 'Oldies' in my playlist ...

The Apps disappear.

2. In addition, when I under the "Files Sharing" section of my phone (in iTunes), there are only 3 Apps displayed. (see image)

3. I have not yet synched the new songs in fear of losing all my apps.

4. I have the most up to date iTunes, 12.7.0.166, and my MacBook Air is on macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

5. If possible, I would like to use the good'old "backup/ reset your iPhone" as a last resort.

Any help is much appreciated.
