Sierra: Changed Finder File Selection Behavior

After upgrading to Sierra I cannot select files in Finder using the keyboard like before. When trying to select multiple files using Shift and the Arrow keys, it simply doesn't work properly (if you've experienced it, you know what I mean).

I have already tried removing the com.apple.finder.plist file in my Library/Preferences folder and rebooting, to no avail.

(An example of the problem can be found on this Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/54caqk/sierra_changed_finder_file_selectio n_behavior_me/ )

Yep same behaviour here with Sierra.

Best thing to do it send feedback via https://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html Apparently if 100 users report the same issue, it'll get attention. So, 1 down, 99 to go

Thanks, I just reported it. Hopefully it gets fixed soon!

Two down, just 98 to go ...

Shift+arrow multi-selection works just fine with Sierra here, i'm sure the problem is caused by some incompatible/not-updated-for-Sierra third-party app conflict, not Apple OS.

I've disabled all my third party applications, and the problem still persists.

It works if you use list view, but not in icon view.

It works in icon view as well for me.

Can you run etrecheck and post results?

I have nothing other than Xcode and Parallels installed -- I do Windows, macOS, Solaris and FreeBSD software development but as you asked:

Does it happen also if you create and log into a guest account and try to select files there?

Does it happen in Safe Mode?

(to make sure Parallels isn't the one causing interferences)

Yes x2

weird indeed, your system seems to be almost vanilla.

I have a lot more stuff on my mac (including Parallels) and have no such problem with shift+arrows selections

FWIW, for me it works in List and Column view, but only partially works in icon view as described in the posted link.

sorry, you're all absolutely right, the selection with shift + arrows is screwed up in icon view for me too.

you can only go one step to the left, then stop, and you can only go to the right and when pressing "up" it selects the file relative to the first one selected, not where your last selection is.

Definitely a bug.

Exactly the same happening with me, was beginning to think it was just me. Lets hope it gets noticed and fixed as slowing down my work no end having to select each file one by one.
