Cannot remove albums from iPad via iTunes
I have an iPad 2 running ios 9.3.5 (cannot upgrade due to generation of iPad). Am running the latest version of iTnes on my PC (Window 10 64bit) 12.7.0.166. (Though I previously downgraded to an earlier version due to the fisco of no Books in the latest iTunes). On my Ipad under music I have 10 music ablums shown as on the iPadd. But I have undeleted all albums and done a Sync. But they are not removed. I even deleted the library file in the iTunes area on the PC. Then restarted iTunes and asked it to rescan my library folder on the PC. I have also tried deleting the iPad backup on the PC incase they are being restored from the backup. I don't have iCloud running on the PC. I just cannot remove manually these albums. They just shouldn't be on my iPad. I have tried selecting tracks and seeing if I can swipe to the left but can't seem to do that. All this playing around with iTunes due to Apple removing the Books function has caused me loads of time trying to solve how to get non Apple ePub books or PDFs on to my iPad without being able to use iTunes. In the process by restoring a previous version of iTunes and then upgrading back to the latest my music situation is a mess. Particularly that I have all these albums that just shouldn't be on my iPad and I just cannot synchronise them off the iPad. I really could do with some assistance.
Hello moriarty7,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding you've been unable to remove albums from your iPad. You've done a fantastic job trying to get this resolved so far! I'm happy to help.
Since content synced from iTunes isn't included in an iTunes backup, I recommend backing up and restoring your iPhone to factory settings using iTunes. Once you've successfully restored your iPhone, restore your content from the new backup. Use the steps in the links below:
How to back up you iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings
Please let us know if the issue persists.
Have a wonderful day!
I have restored the iPad to factory settings/ios. I am now restoring the iTunes backup. It appears to be restoring my apps. No doubt several cup of coffees later! There is no music shown under the music area. All my MP4 music is backed up on a cloud (not iCloud) - I have over 100Gb stored of music, photographs and important data. But really this has been so much hassle because someone in Apple decided to delete the Books function from iTunes. I have tried to use iCloud for my PDFs and Epub (not iTunes purchased). But didn't get anywhere easily. PDFs I can use the Adobe iPad reader App. Then use DropBox to transfer (works a treat as DropBox does). I am really deciding to purchase an Android Tablet. As an ex UNIX engineer I like Android. I can see the folders and files on the device. The same with Microsoft devices. Heaven knows why Apple decided to hide the storage folders on the iPad/iPhone etc. So I have to transfer via iTunes and I have had many difficulties with this. I let you know whether I get the iPad back to full functionalityh and data. Then I will see if I can get an Epub document to iBooks (an Apple app) via iCloud. You could add DropBox transfer - yes I know not Apple iCloud but it works.
The iPad has restored and there are no albums on the iPad (as I am not posting any). However when I try to transfer an album by ticking the tick box for that album and say Apply I get the message:Syncing 'Graham-ipad' (my iPad) with this iTunes library will replace media from another library on "Study' (my PC/Win10). An iPad can only sync with one iTunes library. ???? But it is the same iPad and the same library on my PC etc. I don't want iTunes as per Apple sometimes does to start deleting my library of albums on my PC. So how can I convince iTunes/iPad/my PC they are all still the same since rebuilding the ios on my iPad and restoring all my apps etc...
Now that I have rebuilt my iPad 2 and restored the backup. Not only does the Music talk about another library. But my Kindle App says Error Please remove this book from your device and redownload it. This occurs for every Kindle book. None of the data side seems happy! But it is the same PC (same name), the same iPad and yet it is as if the 2 don't relate to each other now. Also when I send a document to DropBox the iPad says it has sent it but it doesn't appear on my DropBox account. This whole incident with Apple/iTunes/iPad is a nightmare. I could do with more help to restore the funcionality of my iPad even though I have done a factory restore and restore backup. What more do I have to do???
moriarty7,
Thank you for trying the suggested steps and following up. At this point, we recommend contacting Apple Support for further assistance with this issue.
