Connection problems between Apple Bluetooth key...

Everytime I try to connect my Apple Bluetooth keyboard (Magic Keyboard 1, the one without the rechargeable battery) with my iPad Pro (ios11), it pairs with limited functionality. I can increase & decrease volume and brightness... and that’s it.

I have unpaired and repaired the keyboard, but it doesn’t help.

I have learned through trial and error: To regain full functionality of my keyboard, I have to trun off my iPad (holding wake button for a few seconds) and turn it back on.

Is there a fix for this issue?
