nope not true..I have a iphone 5 and can’t pair with watch series 2....grrr now I will need to upgrade phone even if my 5 is still working fine...

It sounds as if you have updated the watchOS, because the older watchOS would work. You also identify an iPhone 5, and the thread was about the iPhone 5s. And with the release of the Series 3, Apple is no longer selling the Series 2. However, there may still be some Series 2 watches available out there. The Series 3 GPS only require the iPhone 5s or above, and the Series 3 GPS + Cellular requires the iPhone 6 or above.

The question was about an iPhone 5S, not about an iPhone 5. Apple Watch has never worked with an iPhone 5, it's always required a 5S or later.
