Touch ID on 2016 13" MBP TB unreliable

The Touch ID on my near-new MBPTB works great for a week or two after I've entered a couple of fingerprints, after that it hardly works any time -- I always end up having to type my details to unlock the computer.

I've tried erasing the scans and doing new scans -- same thing Touch ID works great for a week or so and then almost always fails.

Interestingly, this issue seems only to happen with log-on to the computer -- when ID is needed to e.g. unlock the Note Pad, it works more reliably.

Since Touch ID is about the only use I have for the Touch Bar, this is very annoying.

Is there a fix? (I doubt it)
