Should I set up Time Capsule with same name as ...

When setting up the Time Capsule I have used the "Create New Network" wireless option BUT:

I have a router with its own wireless network, should I use the same name and password for the TC as the router network, or should the TC have its own discrete network for backups from my wireless devices?

The Time Capsule is connected to the Sky router via ethernet cable and my iMac is connected to the TC via ethernet.  I also have a Macbook Air that I backup to the Time Capsule wirelessly.

Getting new router and new Macbook pro this week, so want to set it all up again with the optimum configuration.

should I use the same name and password for the TC as the router network

Yes and no.

Yes, if the TC will be located at least a room or two away from the Sky router.

No, if the TC will be located in close proximity to the Sky router.

IF...the the TC will be located in close proximity to the Sky router, and you want to use Time Capsule wireless....and you don't need the Sky wireless....then it would be best practice to turn off or disable the wireless on the Sky router to reduce the chances of wireless interference effects between the Sky and TC.

Thanks for that helpful reply.  It's in the same room, so wireless set to "off" seems the right answer.  The TC should be accessible on the network since it's connected directly to the router via ethernet.

The TC should be accessible on the network since it's connected directly to the router via ethernet.

In theory, this is correct. In practice, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest. Apple expects users to connect the TC to a modem.....not another router.....so things are sometimes not as easy as they should be.
