Screen Randomly Goes Black

Hello,

I have an iMac Late 2013 that was working perfectly for the last few years but like one month ago the screen started going randomly black at some points. This was happening once or twice a day under normal (Internet Browsing, Youtube Videos...) and even heavy use (Video Editing, Some graphic intensive games on BootCamp...). But it was not very annoying. Now that i upgraded to macOS 10.13 it is happening more often and sometimes it is very annoying. Also it causes the screen to go black and i have to restart the machine by holding the power button to revert it back.

Specs:

  • macOS 10.13 and Windows 10 (BootCamp)
  • Intel Core i5 4570R
  • Integrated Iris Pro 5200
  • 8GB RAM
  • 21.5" Model

I don't think this is caused by the upgrade to macOS 10.13 because it also happens when i use BootCamp.

Is this some kind of GPU issue or it is power issue?

Thanks.

It sounds like a hardware problem. It may be a loose connection.

Run Apple Diagnostics:

If Apple Diagnostics report a problem, there usually is one. But just because it reports no problem doesn't necessarily mean one doesn't exist. Apple has much more sensitive tests they run at the Apple Stores. So you probably should bring it in for a diagnostic.
