my usb super drive broken

I just bought a usb super drive yesterday.  It will not recognize any dvd. When I connect it to the usb in the back of my macOS Serria10.12.6. The super drive makes a lot whirling and other strange noise for about 55 seconds and then for a better word throws the dvd up. I have tried three different makes of dvd. I unplugged all the other devices from the back of the mac shut it down unplugged it and restarted it. Still the same problem. I have checked for apps and did not find anything to down load to fixed this. O by the way you not talking to techie. I am a 70 year old Vietnam Vet so if you could dumb it down so I could understand what might be the problem. Thank from a old fart

Take it back. If it's defective, they will replace it.
