why do I constantly have to reset my apple pass...

Why do I constantly have to reset my apple password?

Why do you think you need to reset your Apple password? Are you getting email saying you must? If so, these emails are likely scams trying to get your personal or financial information. Post one of these emails so that we can take a look.

If you are not getting the requests by email, let us know how you are getting asked to reset your password.

You would have to provide a bit of context for that question. What is requiring you to reset it? What are you attempting to do when you feel that you are being required to reset it? Are you getting a message? If so, what is it?

Cheers,

GB

I got one of these today and it was from apple update. when I clicked to install and update to a birthday book app it wouldn’t accept my password that I reset just a few weeks ago.

Again, not enough info. You got one of what today? An email? If so, what, exactly, did it say?

Not sure what you mean when you indicate that you clicked on a link to install an update? Updates are not done via links.

Cheers,

GB

it was not an email, it was a pop-up from apple update.

Updates do not "pop up" either. You may get a notification that you have updates, but you have to  open the Mac App Store in order to actually do the update, so again, not sure what you are referring to when you indicate that there was a link.

Your App Store will have a badge when you have an update. You are simply not providing enough information for us to help. We cannot see your computer, so we cannot see what it is you are referring to.

Please clearly describe what you were doing when this pop-up appeared, and what, exactly, was in the pop-up. If you can provide a screen print that would be even better.

Cheers,

GB

sorry it was a notification about an update and I clicked "install" to find out what exactly it was and I think that was when the apple store site came up and asked for my sign in and password. don't have a screen shot but the original  notification box was pretty small and at the top right corner of my screen. after resetting my password I had the computer save it for subsequent sign ins and have signed in to this site several times without any problems.

I Know exactly what you are talking about from your first post. This issue is explained somewhere in another thread but as far as I remember there is no solution. It's something stupid to do with Apple as usual And happens to a lot if not all Apple users. I keep meaning to try figure out a solution because it irritates me regularly. Might end up buying a Samsung for my next phone.

Since this is a user to user forum, we have no vested interest in what you decide to do for your next smartphone purchase.

However, if you are interested in actually fixing your issue, perhaps you could explain what it is, exactly. The previous poster never provided a clear explanation of what issue they were running into or when.

So, what is the issue? When does it happen? iOS device? Mac? iOS or OS X level.

Give us something to go on here, and we may be able to help....

My Apple ID password keeps expiring

THere is is the link to the forum I was talking about, that should have the information you. The thread is from 2012 but no solution was found. It seems to be an old security setting that users once had the option to decide how often your Apple ID password expired. But Apple being Apple decided that it was in all our best interest to remove this option. So I'm guessing it defaults to whatever option a user had selected before Apple removed the ability to change which would explain why it happens to people at different periods of time if at all. For me, my girlfriend and her brother it is monthly. It's infuriating because it usually asks you to update your billing info also even when just downloading a free app.

I am using an iPhone 6, that I bought in august 2015, running iOS 9.2.1. I don't update the software because Apple seems to think it's fine to mess up your music, contacts, messages anything else important to a users phone with every update. I need my phone to be working exactly as it does the day I buy it in a store.

THank's for your reply and I did not mean to have an attitude with another user, I'm just so fed up with Apple not being simple anymore

I'm sorry, but there is clearly some misunderstanding here. Apple ID passwords do not expire. I have had the same Apple ID password for my original Apple ID since Day 1. The Apple ID password for my current Apple ID does not expire either.

Recently, people have been asked at various points to log into Apple - My Apple ID to change their password, oftentimes when they have signed into iCloud.com after a period of time has elapsed. This particular iteration of password change requirements goes hand in hand with getting people to create more complex, safer, passwords. An 8-digit password is just not going to cut it in this day of sophisticated hackers. My current password is 16-characters long, has upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters. And it is not hard for me to remember since I used a set of elements common in my everyday life, and simply did a little creative substitution.

Passwords can also be asked continually if you have issues with your Keychain becoming corrupted. You can remedy that issue by If your Mac keeps asking for the login keychain password - Apple Support

Another common complaint is that the person is putting the correct password, but they are putting in the password needed to update an App, and they have failed to notice that the Apple ID asing for the password is an old apple ID of their, or is their girlfriend's apple ID.

If you have more than one Apple ID that you have purchased Apps under, I recommend that you keep the passwords for those two Apple IDs in sync at all times. Then you won't run into the issue.

There are a myriad of reasons why people get stuck in password loops, but expiring Apple ID passwords is not one of them.

Best of luck,

Seems like you haven't read through the thread I posted. One of the users called tech support and got the explanation I posted, I didn't just make that up.

i always remembered my passwords because I had a handful for different websites for years. They always contained lower case, upper case and numbers. i was forced to change my password last month to a brand new 11 character password. It's now written down in a notebook where I have probably around 20 passwords for all these different websites. Two days ago when trying to update an app I once again, right on time, a month later, am told my Apple ID is incorrect and I have to log into I.forgot and reset it again. And I typed in some old passwords and it still didn't work.

The keychain solution seems like a Mac based one ( I know I could be wrong here, I'm not sure ). but my iMac is used for music production and I have an old MacBook for surfing the web and handling my music but I do not ever log in to anything to do with Apple on either device.

This isn't a mistake that I am making. I will get in touch with tech support myself and if I find a solution I will post it in the thread I posted to Gail's reply above.

Apple passwords for Developer accounts expire every 6 months. Apple IDs for regular accounts do not expire. I have an Apple ID from 1990 that has never required my password to be changed. I'm not saying that there may be some anomalous IDs that at one time had a field where an expiration date could be set, and that now those particular (and very rare) Apple IDs are having issues, but the vast majority of Apple ID passwords have no way to assign nor track an EXPIRATION DATE.

In fact, a quite popular scam at the moment is to send someone a message or email warining them that if they don't sign into the linked website and change their password within the next hour, their Apple ID will be locked out permanently.

Any email or message or pop-up for that matter that uses the word "expire" in the text is a total and complete scam. Don't fall for it, don't provide any information to anyone about you, your Apple Account, or any other persona data. Passcodes (with the exception of the Developer Account password listed above, and which also follow a specific protocol to update an expiring pasword) will never alert you that they are have or are about to "EXPIRE".

Cheers,

GB,

Here is the scenario that I see.

Wake up in the morning and head to computer and I have a notification:

'This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with "email@domain.com".

Open iCloud preferences to fix this problem.'

Clicking on 'iCloud Preferences', I then receive a notification stating:

'You can't sign in because your account was disabled for security reasons.

To enable your account, reset your password at https://forgot.apple.com'

In the past, roughly 3 months, I have gone through this procedure 5 times.
