No audible alarms when mute is on

I was reading that "Mute will not silence alarms or timers.". But I just tested it on my watch and all I get for either an alarm or timer is the haptics.

Why is that? So my alarm will never go off with sound unless the watch is on a charger? There has to be a workaround. What if I am sleeping somewhere and my watch charger isn't with me?

The behaviour described in my reply relates to when Apple Watch has been placed into Silent Mode.

With Silent Mode turned off, alarms will still include sound alerts when you are wearing your Apple Watch.

Sound alerts are also provided for alarms when Do Not Disturb mode (rather than Silent Mode) is enabled and your Apple Watch is being worn.

Thank you. I just want to make sure I am understanding you correctly. In order for my phone alarm to go off, my Apple Watch can't be in silent mode?
