Time Machine with Shared Drive

Here's my setup: I have High Sierra running on a Mac Mini with an external drive attached. Two partitions on the external drive - one at 3TB for the connected Mac Mini, one at 2TB to be a shared network drive. I have a MBP that I want to back up to the 2TB shared drive. I can see the drive in the MBP finder, but when I go to select a drive for Time Machine, it doesn't show up. I have the Mac Mini set to share the drive as AFP and have SMB disabled. Thanks in advance for any help!
