convert higher bit rate songs to = no artwork

When I copy a high bit rate song to my iPhone or Ipod 160GB Classic using the "Convert Higher BIt Rate Song" option the Album Artwork is striped oout

Any solutions?

It's a real PIA as I have lots of lossless muisc files and I dont won't to have to manually add album art for each song.....

This (probably bug?) still annoys me badly in 2017.

Did anyone find a solution?

Just syncing the alac files without converting is no option for me as I have several 24bit files (48 and 44,1 kHz) which can be transferred to the iPod but are converted to 16bit on the fly while playing. 

This truncating instead of dithering leads to ugly artifacts/clicks/noise peaks at several songs (at least in my case with the last iPod Classic 160GB).
