Auto Unlock

How do I enable MacBook (2015) Auto Unlock on Sierra 10.12.6 when I get a failed with message "...was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch" 3, iOS 4.01?

I have logged out and shut down all three devices (MacBook), iPhone 7.0 (iOS 11.02) and Watch 3 (iOS 4.01).
