Cannot log into my Apple ID to download apps?

I have an iPod 5 and just downloaded IOS 11.0.3. Ever since I made the update, I am not able to download apps. When I try to download an app it asks if I want to use an existing Apple ID or make a new one. I choose use existing and type my Apple ID and password. Nothing happens. I try to download again and the process repeats. What is wrong?
