Unlock MacBook Pro with Apple Watch

I have an Apple Watch Series 2 and the Fall 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, and I've had constant issues getting the "Unlock MacBook with Apple Watch" feature to work. It worked beautifully the first couple of weeks when I got my MacBook last year, then it stopped working altogether. I tried all of the troubleshooting steps, (restarting each of them, unchecking and re-checking the box in System Preferences, disabling and reenabling the bluetooth on each of them, etc.) and nothing ever fixed it. Most recently, an Apple Support rep told me to reinstall the operating system, which seemed extreme. Since it wasn't a feature that I really needed, I figured I would just continue with the fingerprint unlock system. However, the most recent upgrade to MacOS High Sierra magically fixed it and it was working again! For a couple of weeks... Now it's back to not working. Again, tried all the basic restarts and troubleshooting, but it still doesn't even try to unlock with the Apple Watch.

Is anyone else having similar issues? Any magical suggestions on how this can be fixed?
