Computer running slow

I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2010 model with macOS Sierra Ver 10.12.6.  It has a2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory.  It has been running very slow for about a week or so.  I went back a month in time machine and reloaded just incase something had changed.  This did not help.  I hooked up the ethernet, it seemed to be a little faster.  I am not sure what to try next.
