Pages missing files

Since I updated my iPad to iOS 11 and my Pages app to version 3.3 all of my named and saved Pages files prior to September 12, 2016 are gone. They are still represented in their respective folders by a generic icon of a slanted pen. However when I try to open the file I get a message “sorry can’t open the document, the file does not exist”. Every attempt to perform any function results in the same message.

I do not use the cloud or attempt to sync files. They are all saved and stored on the iPad.

Today while fussing with the app things changed. Now I open Pages and tap a file and the documen opens and all but the missing ones open normally. However if I tap one of the missing file icons then nothing will open and I have to go back and reopen the Pages app.

I believe but can’t confirm that the problem might be arising from a conflict with the Files app. While playing around in the Files app I tapped or pressed a missing file icon and somehow opened the file in a totally different format. I was not able to duplicate the proces.
