Fake.

Apple provide guidance through these documents but the key factors are … Apple will always address you by your name or the name they know you by and that email will always come from an address which ends ‘@apple.com’.

Remember ... never click on a link within any email you suspect.

These are the Apple documents you should keep on hand.

Totally fake. Apple does not ask you to pay for unlocking ever and even less so through bitcoin transactions.

This is a blatant scam, and you can ignore it.

If you want to verify your account is not locked, you can go to https://appleid.apple.com and log in with your Apple ID.

Thank you Phil i know i wasn’t just losing my mind but what happens to my macbook now as i cannot access it even if i do force restart it loads up with the initial apple logo then the bar underneath initialize like to load up but just goes to the system lock pin screen with 6 boxes to put digits and the info of this fake email. I cannot even type on the boxes i tried but nothing comes up its just like a fake page that do not respond still no means of getting pass it

Your Apple ID was hacked. You need to call Apple and ask to speak to the account security team. Have proof-of-purchase ready: Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security - Apple Support.

When you regain access to your Mac, be sure to change your password at https://iforgot.apple.com, and change it to something harder to guess.

The worrying thing is this is on my macbook start up page on the system lock screen with the said e-mail. so its like my macbook is hacked and held for ransom. How could they do it tho... i cannot access to my macbook at all since everytime i try to restart it just goes back to that system lock screen

Your Apple ID is not hacked.

You have one of those Ransomware viruses, and it has locked your Mac.

If you need your data back, you will have to Pay though there is no guarantee you'll get your data back, otherwise you can restore your Mac to factory and regain access to it. Unless you have a backup your data will be lost.

You can try to start the computer with the command + r keys held down, and restore the Mac.

I have a 2 way authentication so i have managed to unlock my icloud and change password on my iphone but still my macbook is stuck on system lock screen

I tried command+r but its just a padlock on screen with an empty bar under it

Contrary to Phil's post, your Apple ID WAS hacked. What you are seeing is Lost Mode, a feature of Find my iPhone. A hacker can go to iCloud.com and use Find my iPhone to set the six-digit code that you're seeing. This feature does NOT require the hacker to verify the identity with two-factor authentication.

That's because Lost Mode places a firmware-level passcode on the Mac, it won't matter what partition you boot to.

So what would you suggest is the best thing to do? First of all my laptop is more than 6 years and the receipt has already faded a long time ago that i threw it away. So going in an apple store without a receipt, how far do you think would they be willing to help?? Does it help that i have the 2 way authentication atleast for them to see that the laptop is aunthenticated with my apple id as it also shows my mac’s serial number when you look it up on find my mac on my iphone?

It doesn't hurt to try talking to Apple; if you bring a photo ID maybe that would be enough. Other than that, you may just have to pay the ransom. You could also try contacting your local law enforcement agency.

My mistake. I stand corrected.

No worries. It's been a while since I've dealt with Lost Mode, as well. But I recall seeing that article so that's how I knew.
