can't change settings on system preferences, why?

i purchased a second hand MacBook pro, i got the user and password from the seller, and it was working correctly, i installed the high sierra 10.13, and it was all working great but it bothered me to have the name of the guy who sold the computer as name of the account, so i tried changing it, after i did it i couldn't open system preferences or make any changes, i can still log into the admin account, but chant make any changes to it, tried changing it which my apple id but i was denied so i guess it is still associated to his apple id, what can i do???

After purchasing a used Mac that was not fully reset to factory state you need to do the following:

Clean Install of Sierra or El Capitan on a Clean Disk

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command-Option-R keys until a globe appears.
  2. The Utility Menu will appear in from 5-20 minutes. Be patient.
  3. Select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button.
  4. When Disk Utility loads select the drive (usually, the out-dented entry) from the side list.
  5. Click on the Erase tab in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
  6. Set the partition scheme to GUID.
  7. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  8. Click on the Apply button, then click on the Done button when it activates.
  9. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  10. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

This should install the version of OS X that was pre-installed when the computer was new.

When you start up you are asked to create a new user account and password. Here you can set the username to your choice as well as the password.
