dvd player app won't open

When I insert my disc drive to my macbook air and insert a DVD, nothing happens. I checked the preferences and tried to select for it to automatically open the DVD player when I insert a DVD, but it did not give me that as an option. I cannot find the DVD player app anywhere on my computer. If I accidentally deleted it, I can't find a way to redownload it.

The app is included as part of the macOS install.

Search for it with Spotlight. If you can't find it, reinstall your macOS version (whatever version that may be).
