Macbook Pro 5,1 (late 2008) with El Capitan get...

Hello everyone,

 

I would like to recycle my old Macbook Pro for easy tasks, like checking email, browse the web and edit/create office docs. I also upgraded it to 8GB of RAM and SSD, however I randomly and frequently get the colourful spinning wheel. I installed El Capitan after trying Yosemite first, as I read about the new graphics engine which supposedly speeds up older hardware. I indeed noticed a performance improvement over Yosemite, however these annoying spinning wheels continue to be a real pain. Setting up the machine, I did a clean install of El Capitan and used the migration assistant to import settings and data from another HDD. The spinning wheel comes up even if CPU utilization is low and when there's 4GB+ of available memory.

 

I noticed this issue is affecting lots of people, so I followed the advice I read in several posts and ran EtreCheck on my machine, posting the outcome here hoping that someone more experienced than me can help me locate and fix the issue

 

This was the second EtreCheck run, the first one showed "Performance: below average" which conflicts with the "Excellent" found in this run.
