Airdrop Not Working After Sierra Upgrade
Recently upgraded a 2012 MacBook Pro to macOS Sierra (10.12.5) and all is well except for Airdrop no longer working (can't send or receive). I've tried various fixes including turning Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on and off, restarting, resetting the NVRAM, adjusting Firewall settings but nothing has worked. Also, I no longer have the option in the Airdrop window for "Allow me to be discovered by..." (see the attached screenshot). Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Hi, did you ever solve this? I'm struggling with the same issue.
Same thing with me. Airport on my desktop keep toggling back to "discovered by no one." Can't get it to stay on!
Hey Tom_Tom,
So I have recently been to the apple store facing the same kind of issue and the after several tests and troubleshooting we came to the conclusion that for some reason it looks like a software issue with the macOS 10.12. It seems as if it only effected some people, but I had to back up my iMac, wipe it and then manually replace everything from my back up.
Timemachine- You can use Time Machine but you will still have to manually drag your files because if you just restore from time machine back up it for some reason reinstalls that same airdrop issue.
Hope this helps-

Tips for sending items
If you don't see the recipient in the AirDrop window or sheet:
- Make sure that both devices have AirDrop turned on and are within 30 feet (9 meters) of each other.
- If you're sending to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
- Your Mac needs to be a 2012 or newer model with OS X Yosemite or later.
- The iOS device must be using iOS 7 or later and have Personal Hotspot turned off in Settings > Cellular.
- If you're sending to a Mac:
- If the receiving Mac is using OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion, it needs to have an AirDrop window open: choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar in the Finder.
- If the receiving Mac is a 2012 or older model, click “Don't see who you're looking for?” in the AirDrop window or sharing sheet of the sending Mac. Then click “Search for an Older Mac.”
- Find out if the Mac has “Block all incoming connections” turned on in Security & Privacy preferences. A Mac won't receive items using AirDrop if this setting is turned on.
- If AirDrop on the receiving device is set up to receive items from contacts only, make sure that both devices are signed in to iCloud. Also make sure that the email address or phone number associated with your Apple ID is in the Contacts app of the receiving device.
AirDrop system requirements
To send items to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or to receive items from those devices, you need a 2012 or later Mac model with OS X Yosemite or later, excluding the Mac Pro (Mid 2012).To send items to another Mac, you need:
- MacBook Pro (Late 2008) or later, excluding the MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2008)
- MacBook Air (Late 2010) or later
- MacBook (Late 2008) or later, excluding the white MacBook (Late 2008)
- iMac (Early 2009) or later
- Mac Mini (Mid 2010) or later
- Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)

Did you solve this??? Still i have that poblem
Air drop has suddenly stopped working from my Mac to my iPhone 6S+. No new updating occurred. I have paired the two devices in Bluetooth. Airdrop is set to receive from everyone. Restarted all devices multiple times. Wifi and Bluetooth have been toggled off and on. I can see both devices; the Mac sends the file to the iPhone, a check-mark appears on the iPhone as if the file transfer is complete, then the iPhone gives an error message 'failed to transfer. send to iCloud?'
Anyone else seeing this?
