Software instruments adding C

Any time i create a new software instrument in Logic Pro X, it adds a constant MIDI note (C-2), no matter what the patch is.  For most instruments this creates a very distorted tone that i can't get to turn off.  I can erase the notes in the step editor, but it comes back.  Can anyone help?

Sounds like an external controller sending some kind of sync signal.

What happens if you unplug all your external USB devices?
